Subject: [Edlib] Update: The New Zealand Educational Theses Database http://www.nzcer.org.nz/edtheses.php

This database has been developed by the library of the New Zealand Council for Educational Research, as part of the Ministry of Education’s Iterative Best Evidence Synthesis (BES) programme. http://www.educationcounts.govt.nz/goto/BES <http://www.educationcounts.govt.nz/goto/BES>

We’ve hit over 9000 theses, dating back to 1970.

Reference and Liaison Librarians, check it out, it’s amazingly helpful because education and training are relevant across so many subject areas. Strengths include topics like teacher professional development, Educational leadership, Maori and Pasifika education.

Using the database

The database is hosted on the NZCER website, at www.nzcer.org.nz/edtheses.php

Information is on three levels and is constantly being updated.

1. Bibliographic details

2. Abstract and contents page

3. Link to full text. The database contains 883 full texts so far.

You can browse and combine the controlled indexing vocabularies in the advanced search screen to build highly specific searches from these fields:

• Subject descriptors based on the ATED Australian Thesaurus of Education Descriptors http://www.acer.edu.au/library/ated/index.html

and Added descriptors adapted for New Zealand terminology.

• Six education level descriptors: adult, early childhood education, primary, secondary, tertiary and training.

• Age group descriptors.

• More than 100 country descriptors: for example many overseas students write about education in their home countries, overseas students may include New Zealand in comparisons.

Now we need your help…
