Subject: Invitation to Melbourne Inmagic User Group meeting at ACER - 21 April 2015
Inmagic Melbourne User Group Meeting at ACER on Tuesday 21 April
On behalf of the Inmagic User Group Committee, we invite you to attend the first meeting for the year of the Melbourne Inmagic User Group at The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). The Cunningham Library<http://www.acer.edu.au/library/%20> provides an information service for ACER staff, Library members & ACER Institute students, as well as producing a number of databases such as the Australian Education Index / A+ Education, The Australasian Education Directory, BOLDE, IDP Database of Research in International Education, Learning Ground, EdResearch Online & The Education Research Theses database.
Cunningham Library holds one of the most comprehensive and up to date collections of educational research documents in Australia. The collection includes information relevant to all education sectors, including early childhood, schools, higher education, vocational education and training (VET) and professional education. The collection also includes some information relevant to psychology, counselling and human resources.
The Library has been using DB/TextWorks and Web Publisher Pro for a number of years. In October 2009 we also added the Trimagic TIMS Library management system, and Profiler. We use these products for Library management functionality, but also use them extensively to produce and distribute our various database products.
Since the last Inmagic User Group meeting held at ACER in 2011, we have been using DB/TextWorks and Web Publisher Pro in additional ways that the Group might be interested in.
* We receive XML feeds from a number of large publishers. As each publisher supplies their data in different structures - none of which exactly match our requirements, we have written an XSL stylesheet for each publisher. We import their data, using the appropriate stylesheet and the Powerpack "Importer" into a single database so we can search for and select journal articles relevant to our indexing requirements.
* In 2014 we commissioned "classifier" software to help us assign subject terms to our Indexing records. The workflow for this is not completely finalised, but we are able to export records requiring subject headings from our Inmagic database in xml format, run the classifier program on that XML file, then re-import the new XML file with subject headings added by the classifier back again.
* Currently Cunningham Library is setting up a trial of Ebsco Discovery Service. For a discovery service to be useful, it needs to include the library catalogue records. This has not been done with an Inmagic/Web Publisher Pro Catalogue before, so EBSCO (as part of the Trial) is talking with Trimagic about how to include DBTEXT data into the discovery service.
* We now have a web based "External Indexing" database where our external indexers can do their indexing directly onto a database on our server.
* We have some IP or Athens Authenticated WebPublisher Pro databases
