The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Improving Measurement
of Medical Rehabilitation Outcomes in collaboration with the American
Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine's Outcome Measurement Networking
Group Presents

Enhancing Outcome Measurement in Rehabilitation Settings

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Pre-course to the ACRM-ASNR Joint Educational Conference in Montreal, QC

v What is the symposium about?

This preconference symposium proposal builds on feedback from members of
the Outcome Measurement Networking Group during the 2009 American
Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine-American Society of
NeuroRehabilitation annual meeting. High priorities for the Networking
Group members were to (1) learn about PROMIS' Assessment Center, (2)
continue discussions of participation measurement, and to (3) address
outcome measurement needs of clinicians. This program proposal addresses
these distinct needs in an integrated program focused on advances in
outcome measurement. Specifically, this symposium aims to:

* Describe the features of the NIH Assessment CenterSM, a dynamic
application that allows researchers to centralize instrument
development, study administration, data management, and storage of
statistical analysis results.

* Define methods and instruments to measure community
participation and meaningful environments for participation.

* Evaluate clinicians' outcome assessment needs and methods to
fulfill their instrumentation needs.

v Who should attend?

Rehabilitation researchers and clinicians who are interested in outcome
measurement.

v Who are the speakers?

Richard Gershon and Susan Magasi (Northwestern University), David Gray
and Holly Hollingsworth (Washington University), Allen Heinemann and
Linda Ehrlich-Jones (Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago), Jeanne Zanca
(Mt. Sinai School of Medicine).

v What will I learn?

The morning session of this symposium will demonstrate Assessment
CenterSM capabilities for online item banking of items in multiple
languages and delivery. The afternoon session builds on the energy and
enthusiasm of Networking Group members, and evaluates researchers' and
clinicians' use of outcome measures and their satisfaction with
available tools. Extending the 2008 ACRM-ASNR preconference symposium on
participation measurement, presenters describe contemporary studies to
measuring participation in community settings, as well as meaningful
environments for participation.

v How can I register?

Registration information can be found at the ACRM Web Site
<http://www.acrm.org/annual_conference/index.cfm> . A reduced rate of
$125 (ACRM members; $175 nonmembers) is available through August 31.

This preconference symposium is supported by the Rehabilitation Research
and Training Center on Improving Measurement of Medical Rehabilitation
Outcomes (H133B090024).
