THE UNIT OF STUDY - BACKGROUND
Introduction to Rasch Measurement of Modern Test Theory is a graduate
unit of study introducing Rasch measurement.
The unit is available in external study mode. This means that the unit
can be studied from anywhere in the world. A discussion site will
operate via the Learning Management System as part of the unit of study.
Students enrolled obtain (i) the study guide; (ii) a set of lecture
materials; (iii) details of the assignments; (iv) the selected readings
and (v) a copy of the RUMM software for the duration of the unit.
WHO SHOULD ENROL?
The unit is suitable for people from many social research backgrounds,
but four in particular have been seen to gain most benefit from their
(i) Professionals (education, psychology, health, economics) engaged in
assessment and measurement of proficiency, attitude, outcomes, etc, who
know classical test theory and need to understand the principles of
modern test theory and Rasch measurement in particular.
(ii) People who have become familiar with Rasch measurement and modern
test theory (item response theory) through professional exposure, but
would like to consolidate their understanding of its first principles.
(iii) Students who are enrolled in higher degree studies and require
knowledge and evidence of studying educational and psychological
measurement, in particular introduction to traditional and modern test
